Uganda Cricket Association has appointed John Walusimbi as the CEO to run the operations of the association following the resignation of Alan Mugume in December last year.
Mugume took over the CEO role from Martin Ondeko in June 2022 but he resigned from the position last December before the end of his three-year contract.
Uganda Cricket Association has an eventful year that includes a maiden World Cup appearance for the Cricket Cranes at the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies. The Victoria Pearls also have a shot at the World Cup via the Global Qualifiers in Dubai in April and all these events have a lot of build-up activities.

The National Council of Sports recognized cricket as a priority sport two years ago and since then the funding to cricket from the government has risen from 500M to 1.2B currently.
Plascon got onboard with the Cricket Cranes in 2022 and early this year Lyca Mobile was also unveiled as a partner for Uganda Cricket.
The growth of the game to every part of the country requires a lot of resources and that would be the number one KPI for the new CEO. Cricket is still a very niche game and the support struggles to attract partners and that is the narrative the new CEO has to change.
Walusimbi started work this new month and he joins cricket with the game in a good place and from hereon things can only get better for Cricket in Uganda.
