Goalkeeper Martin "Smartinho" Elungat's journey has witnessed him feature at Wolves Academy, Fire Masters, St Mary's Kitende, Bunamwaya (now Vipers), Sports Club Villa, Mbarara City, Express, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Thika United, Zoo, Muhoroni Youth, Musanze, Nyanza, Rayon Sports and lately Etincelles. He also played briefly in Malaysia. He has lately signed a short term deal at Blacks Power Football Club.

Sports personalities live three different lifestyles. This is embedded in the span from amateurism to professionalism; the active service till peak moments and the aftermath after retirement.

In these three stages, the sportsmen and women have a lot to learn, serve, earn and save in equal measure.

Goalkeeper Martin “Smartinho” Elungat has diligently served the beautiful game and traversed through the aforementioned stages.

Now at the apex of his career, Elungat is planning for a successful life after retirement.

This very season (2023-2024) Elungat has been in the Rwanda Premier League and has since switched allegiance to the BetPawa FUFA Big League at Blacks Power Football Club.

“I am planning to have a successful shift from active playing to coaching” the former St Mary’s Boarding School player stated.

Elungat commenced his football journey at Wolves Football Academy.

He later featured at Fire Masters, Bunamwaya (now Vipers), Sports Club Villa (twice), Mbarara City, Express, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Thika United, Zoo and Muhoroni Youth (all in Kenya) and Rwanda’s Musanze, Nyanza, Rayon Sports and lately Etincelles.

He also had a brief spell in Malaysia.

After his second stint at Sports Club Villa, Elungat moved to Rwanda at Etincelles Football Club for a short spell.

For the next four months, he will feature at BetPawa FUFA Big League side Blacks Power Football Club.

The Lira based entity agreed with the ball-playing goalkeeper for a short tenure as he plans to enroll for the coaching badges.

“I am more than ready to start studying my coaching badges as I serve in my final years as a player” Elungat who is also comfortable upfront stated.

Elungat also played for the Uganda U-17 and U-20 national teams.

During the epoch of Bobby Williamson, he was summoned for the Uganda National team (The Cranes) duty.
