The consolation for Parliament of Uganda was well celebrated as Chief whip Hamson Obua saluted the Deputy speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa who was seated in the VIP Executive box alongside Vipers' president and proprietor of St Mary's Boarding school - Kitende, Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa.

It was a football lecture taught to the members of Uganda’s Parliament by the visiting delegation from the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) and Slovenia.

Led by the UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, the visitors humiliated the Parliament of Uganda team 7-1 at the St Mary’s Stadium on Monday, 12th February 2024.

Ceferin led by example, scoring a brace and Milivoje Novakovic ran the show with five goals to his name past a hapless Parliament of Uganda team on a sunny afternoon.

Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua found the consolation for the Parliament of Uganda team via a well drilled penalty.

Obua had moments earlier replaced the team captain Moses Hassim Magogo, also the president of Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).

The consolation was well celebrated as Obua saluted the Deputy speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa who was seated in the VIP Executive box alongside Vipers’ president and proprietor of St Mary’s Boarding school – Kitende, Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa.

The UEFA and Slovenia legends team also had the current Slovenia Football Federation Radenko Mijatovic among other country’s football legends that played at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa.

Slovenia’s most capped of all times; Bostjan Cesar with 101 caps to his name was dominate in the heart of defence.

Bostjan, a former player at Dino Zegreb, Olympic Marseille and West Bromich Albion in the English premier league, among others was flawless in defence alongside partner in crime Bojan Jokic.

UEFA and Slovenia legends’ team was dominant from start to finish of the game watched by a small crowd.

Novakovic’s first goal arrived under the opening 60 seconds to set the ball rolling.

Parliament of Uganda team coached by former Uganda Cranes’ international Tom Lwanga had a couple of outstanding players as winger Asuman Basalirwa, Panadol Mugema (right back), Mufti and super substitute Obua.

The midfield combo of Muhammed Nsereko, Matovu and Magogo failed to find their rhythm to feed the state minister of sports Peter Ogwang.

“It was a good game. The ground was a little bit not favourable for our age but nevertheless, I was a perfect match that we should have won by more goals. The UEFA remains committed to transform lives of young footballers through football” Ceferin spoke in the post-match interview.

On Tuesday, 13th February 2024, the UEFA president and his delegation visited the Aliguma Empowerment center in Masindi and commissioned a training ground.

The delegation will depart the country on Wednesday afternoon aboard Qatar Airways.
