Overview:
Besides raising the awareness of the game across the country, such camps are relevant to widen the catchment of Lacrosse players as well as prepare the different schools for the upcoming second edition of the High School super sixes in March 2024.
The sport of Lacrosse is further spreading wings to the country-side in Uganda, thanks to the deliberate, aggressive and brave efforts of Uganda Lacrosse Association (ULA).
In a bid to increase the scoop of coverage and lure more players to this sport, ULA has organized training camps in Kigezi zone (South Western Uganda) and Western (Fort Portal city).
This training camp will take place at Kigezi High School following another one in Kabale last year.

“We are doing activation of the Lacrosse game in western Uganda to spread the game. We shall have a week-long camp at Kigezi High school” Ruth Atim, the Uganda Lacrosse Association Development Director remarks.
The camp at Kigezi High School will be followed by another one in Fort Portal Tourism city at the famous Nyakasura School.
This camp is being conducted by Patience Amulen, a youth coach at Silverbacks Youth sports program and also a member of the Uganda National women’s team.
Amulen is also joined by Mahad Ndugwa, a coach, organized by Kigezi High School and Uganda Lacrosse Association (ULA).
“The camp commenced well with a reasonable number of players (about 30 boys and girls). We shall be here (Kigezi High School) until Wednesday, 21st February 2024. The boys are quick learners with the girls playing catch-up steadily. The sessions are interesting and fully interactive as they freely ask questions. Drills” Amulen remarks of the training camp.
Besides raising the awareness of the game across the country, such camps are relevant to widen the catchment of Lacrosse players as well as prepare the different schools for the upcoming second edition of the High School super sixes in March 2024.
St.Mary’s High School Zirobwe will host the high school super sixes tournament.
Last year, Lacrosse made a grand debut at the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) games menu during the Ball Games II in Kabale.
Under the governance of Liberty Twesiime, the president of the Uganda Lacrosse Association, and his entire executive crew, the sport is steadily recovering from the administrative shambles.
