There is hope that the construction of the MTN Omondi stadium in Lugogo – Kampala, the home of legends is positively progressing.

This follows the aggressive work to complete the opening phase of the construction that commenced in early 2023.

State minister for sports Hon. Peter Ogwang officially commissioned the second phase of this project recently at Lugogo.

Hon. Ogwang was flanked by the Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Dorothy Kisaaka, KCCA sports officer Hakim Kizza, KCCA Football club chairman Eng. Andrew Mukiibi Sserungoji, some members of the KCCA FC board, CEO Anisha Muhoozi, the contractors, engineering personnel and other people.

The minister commended the brave work being executed as he called for fast work.

“I want to thank the management of KCCA for putting up such a facility. This is a time that Uganda as a country we need more facilities in place especially as we eye steady development of the sports sub-sector. In 2027, we shall host the AFCON with Kenya and Tanzania. Uganda needs facilities as the MTN Omondi stadium in place for training purposes. I therefore call for fast completion of this stadium” Hon. Ogwang stated.

Before the commissioning, there was a guided tour around the entire facility that seats on close to 4 arces.

The second phase commences immediately with completion expected by early 2025.

More seating stands are being erected, with completion of the changing rooms, offices and other amenities in place.

The on-going construction process is happening at the same time as the football action is taking place.

The flood lights are also operational for the night games. The MTN Omondi stadium is the traditional home for KCCA Football Club.

The facility also hosts top flight side NEC, Kampala Queens and Proline Football Clubs.
