Shrewd businessman Hamis Kiggundu has taken special praise from the First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni for spur-heading the redevelopment of Nakivubo War memorial stadium, located in the heart of Uganda’s capital city, Kampala.

Kataha hailed the efforts of Kiggundu for the construction of a first class facility as Nakivubo war memorial stadium.

This was after a guided tour of the amenity, flanked by the state minister of sports Hon. Peter Ogwang, other officials from the ministry of education and sports, NCS Board chairman Ambrose Tashobya, General secretary NCS Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel and others.

“The NRM Government takes great pride in witnessing the efforts of young people in building Uganda through projects like Nakivubo War memorial stadium.” Kataha noted.

“During my recent visit to the stadium’s construction site, I had the chance to personally commend Hamis Kiggundu for his substantial contribution to improving the country’s sports infrastructure” she added.

“This incredible partnership between the Government and the private sector showcases NRM’s commitment to fostering youth involvement in national development and I congragulate Ham on this truly remarkable achievement” Kataha praised.

Nakivubo war memorial stadium was closed down in 2017 and has since been undergoing massive redevelopment.

The stadium was converted from natural grass to artificial surface, and the turf laying was completed in December 2023.

Currently, the general sitting stands were fixed with chairs, the floodlight installed, lavish dressing rooms built and the executive director’s box also completed.

There is a state-of-art gym, netball courts, boxing arena, administrative offices and other indoor games.

Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium is one of the facilities that Uganda intends to use for the CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027 Tournaments.
