  • Nile Special Rugby (Men) Championship 2024 – Round 4
  • Kitante Primary School Playground (4 p.m.): Eagles vs Warriors

Last year, in the Central Regional Championship and Promotional Playoffs, Kampani’s Eagles and Warriors were two teams with contrasting fortunes. On one hand, Eagles crossed the T’s and dotted the I’s in their charge for a first-ever foray into the country’s top tier. On the other hand, Warriors kept their head above the water to rejoin the big boys two years after suffering relegation.

The two battled for the then-singular slot up for grabs during the final at Legends Rugby Club in June. Eagles got the better of Warriors by 13-00 points but the latter was thrown a lifeline when the then-league (now championship) was expanded by two teams.

And so, here we are, in the 2024 Nile Special rugby (Men’s) Championship.

Eagles’ and Warriors’ fortunes are much closer. Both are languishing in the relegation zone although, realistically, it would be unfair to expect them to be higher up in the standings. Eagles is in tenth place while Warriors are at the bottom in twelfth.

But Eagles have had a softer landing compared to Warriors. Their first three fixtures in order were Walukuba, Buffaloes, and KOBs. They managed to win only one match – in the first against Walukuba. Warriors’ first three were Rhinos, Heathens, and Black Pirates. They managed one losing bonus point – also in the first against Rhinos.

This being a single-leg championship will be akin to the promotional playoff final Eagles and Warriors played eight months ago. Win and you potentially enter the playoffs positions. Lose and you certainly slide further down in the relegation zone.
