Uganda's weightlifting team at Entebbe International Airport

In Ghana, Uganda has teams in football, cricket, badminton, table tennis, swimming, wrestling, athletics, weightlifting, chess, judo, cycling, among others.

Uganda’s weightlifting team of four athletes and a coach will carry aloft the country’s flag at the 13th edition of the African Games in Ghana.

The athletes on the team are two males and two females under head coach Khasimu Nsubuga.

These include experienced Davis Nyoyita, Lydia Nakidde, Aisha Namataka and Steven Ojede.

We have been training well since the qualifiers in January 2024 in Bugolobi. The mentality and physicality of the players is well.

The players have been undergoing vigorous training sessions at Kibuli, a sports suburb in Kampala city.

The team traveled from Entebbe International Airport on Wednesday night and have already touched base at the games village in Accra city, the capital of Ghana.

The African Games are also an Olympic qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France.
