Dream Team (Class of 2003-2008), the Tyrants (Class of 2010 – 2015) and the Knights (Class of 2016-2022) emerged as the triumphant cohorts of the Guinness sponsored Namilyango College Old Boys' Association (NACOBA) sports gala.

The evening of Friday, 8th March 2024 ended on a high at MUBS arena as the Dream Team (Class of 2003-2008), the Tyrants (Class of 2010 – 2015) and the Knights (Class of 2016-2022) emerged as the triumphant cohorts of the Guinness sponsored Namilyango College Old Boys’ Association (NACOBA) sports gala.

Dream won the gala that had 18 cohorts with the class of 1980-1986 as the oldest and class of 2016-2022, the youngest.

This annual gala was held for the 14th time and is an event that brings Namilyango OBs together in celebration of family, sportsmanship and tradition.

For anyone with a sporty soul, the sports gala was the place to be. It was a busy multi-sports disciplines’ day with games like soccer, rugby, basketball, chess, table tennis, athletics, 100*4m relay, sack race, tug of war and scrabble.

According to Andrew Mutono Kakooza, Vice President of NACOBA, the annual sports gala is a playground for the old boys to converge and not just showcase their athletic prowess but also rekindle their brotherhoods that defined the Namilyango spirit.

“The NACOBA Sports Gala is not just your ordinary sporting event. It’s a reunion of the Namilyango family. This tradition allows us to come together, not only to reminisce about our shared experiences but also to support the college and acknowledge the outstanding contributions of our fellow old boys in their various capacities,” he emphasized.

Roy Tumwizere, Guinness Brand Manager also commented on the partnership with NACOBA, stating, “Guinness is proud to be associated with Namilyango Old Boys League and the annual sports gala. We have witnessed the growth of this relationship, watching it blossom into a true partnership built on shared experiences and a common love for sport, particularly football. We have supported some of the Old Boys Leagues as well including SMACK, Mwiri, Ntare, Chappa, Buddo and are more than honoured to be here,” he said.

Adding a rhythm to the festivities, the evening featured entertainment from Double Black Band, treating attendees to a medley of timeless hits that kept the crowd grooving late into the night.

The Gala succeeded in not only in celebrating athletic achievements but also bringing a fun and good experience for the Old Boys.

Established in 1902, Namilyango College has consistently maintained its position among the top cluster of secondary schools in Uganda.

It has been a cornerstone of education, producing responsible men and contributing significantly to the development of Ugandan citizens.

Namilyango College has not only excelled academically but has also left a permanent mark on Uganda’s sporting landscape.

The sports gala serves as a platform to recognise and celebrate the achievements of Namilyango alumni who continue to excel in various fields beyond the college while also adding a fun twist.

Namilyango College Old Boy’s Association (NACOBA) brings Old Boys together to fellowship, support the college and fellow old boys in various aspects of its mission.

There are over 6000 members motivated by the desire to see the Alma Mater and fraternity grow.
