Uganda’s Husinah Kobugabe has stormed the finals of the 13th African Games in Badminton in Accra city, Ghana on Sunday, 10th March 2024.

The hard-fighting Ugandan used 27 minutes to outsmart Nigeria’s Dorcas Ajoke Adesokan 2-0 (21-08 and 21-19).

Kobugabe was ruthless in the opening set, leading 4-1 in the opening four minutes.

She extended the lead to 11-4 by the time Adesokan sought for a technical time-out after five minutes.

The first set was complete in 10 minutes with the Ugandan leading 21-08.

Adesokan returned energized and a completely different part in the second set.

The Nigerian led 4-0 after the first five minutes with Kobugabe playing catch up.

Adesokan continued with the brave show; leading 6-2 at some stage; 9-3 before Kobugabe staged a come-back.

After 19 minutes, Kobugabe took charge of the game 11-10 and forced Adesokan to call for a time-out.

On 24 minutes, Kobugabe led 15-11 before completing the set 21-19 to win 2-0 and book the final berth.

The second girl’s semi-final was between South Africa’s Johanita Scholtz and Ugandan Mohamed Rafi Fadilah Shamika.

The South African won the contest 2-0 in 27 minutes.

Scholtz won the first set 21-14 under 14 minutes and inflicted further damage in the subsequent set 21-10.

The singles’ final will be between Uganda’s Kobugabe and Scholtz to determine who takes gold and silver respectively.
