13th African Games (Football U-20 boys):

Group A:

  • Ghana 3-1 The Gambia
  • Benin 0-0 Congo

Hosts of the 13th African Games, Ghana recorded their first victory in boys’ football, overcoming The Gambia 3-1 in group A at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday night.

Azizi Musibau, Abdul Azizi Issa and super subsistute Jerry Afriyie found the back of the net for the hosts.

Cesay Ebrima pulled back the consolation for The Gambian team that staged a gallant comeback.

Musibau gave the Satelites the early lead on the quarter hour mark.

Abdul Azizi added the second three minutes into the second half to establish a 2-0 lead.

The left footed player watched in disbelief when his penalty kick was thwarted by the goalkeeper inside the final 19 minutes of the game.

The game got tense with The Gambia’s goal by Ebrima in the 82nd minute.

The worry-lines pasted across the faces of many Ghanaian fans were cleared and tension cooled down with Ghana’s third goal by Afriyie to secure the maximum points from the game.
