Group A
Tanzania vs Ethiopia – 8PM EAT
Uganda vs Ghana – 11PM EAT
Uganda U20 Women’s National Football Team will be eyeing a slot in the semifinals as they take on hosts Ghana on Friday at Cape Coast Stadium.
The Queen Cranes need at least a point to guarantee their chances of advancing to the last four. However, they can as well progress depending on the result from the game between Ethiopia and Tanzania that will be played earlier.
Tanzania have one point and need to win against Ethiopia with a big margin (3+ goals) and then hope Ghana defeats Uganda.
Coach Sheryl Botes of Uganda is aware of what hosts Ghana bring to the table but believes her charges are up to the task.
“Ghana is a good team and playing against such teams helps us to gauge ourselves. I have no doubt about the ability of my players and know they will perform to our expectations,” she said.
“Our target is to stay in the tournament and go as far as we can. So, we shall play with full commitment to make sure we progress to the next level.”
Uganda can top Group A if they win against Ghana. Victory would move the Queen Cranes to seven points, one ahead of the hosts.
The only likely absentee for Uganda is defender Shakirah Nankwanga who was stretchered off in the game against Ethiopia and she reportedly picked a second yellow card that rules her out of Friday’s game.
