Overview:

On Tuesday, 19th March 2024, Uganda takes on Congo in the semi-finals as hosts Ghana will face Senegal in an all West-African contest.

Uganda national football U-20 team (The Hippos) recorded their third consecutive win at the 13th African Games in Ghana.

On Friday night, Uganda edged fellow CECAFA region ambassadors South Sudan 1-0 courtesy of a brilliant strike by roving right back Apollo Kagogwe in the 73rd minute at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra city.

Add to the 2-1 and 1-0 victories over Nigeria and Senegal respectively, Uganda emerged top of group B with maximum points.

Senegal who beat Nigeria 3-2 at the Accra sports stadium on the same night qualified to the semi-finals as the second best team.

Uganda’s head coach Morley Byekwaso Ochama has henceforth saluted the team-work mentality and fighting character for the team.

“I want to thank the Almighty Lord” he echoed with his trade-mark introductory remarks.

“I thank the boys (players) and the rest of the technical team for the victories in all the three matches. We are now through to the semi-finals against Congo. We face a side that has over the years presented physical players. We are ready for the task at hand” Byekwaso added.

The gaffer who is deputized by another former Uganda Cranes international Simeon Masaba works along with Steven Billy Kiggundu and Noah “Babadi” Kasule as goalkeeping coach and trainer respectively.

He is expected to ring changes from the team that started against South Sudan with workaholic midfielder Ivan Irinimbabazi, Patrick Jonah Kakande, Bruno Bunyaga and Ibrahim Juma all due to reclaim their starting berths.

On Tuesday, 19th March 2024, Uganda takes on Congo in the semi-finals as hosts Ghana will face Senegal in an all West-African contest.

Both semi-final matches will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The bronze medal match and final will take place on 22nd March 2024 (Accra Sports Stadium).
