Halima Nakaayi will be hoping to add to her hardware collection on Tuesday as she enters the Women’s 800m final at the African Games in Accra, Ghana.

The middle-distance runner will be aiming to turn the bronze she won at the previous edition of the African Games five years ago in Rabat, Morocco into gold.

On Monday, she eased through the semifinals, registering the best time across the three heats.

Running in lane 1, Nakaayi posted 2:03.59 ahead of Botswana’s Nowe Oratile.

Nakaayi believes she is in perfect shape and conditions to clinch gold today with the race slated for 10:05PM EAT at the University of Ghana Stadium.

She will be joined by fellow countrywoman and USA-based Susan Aneno who also qualified by performance in heat 3.

Uganda has so far won a total of 11 medals. Two gold, three silver and three bronze medals as well as boxing’s three yet to be identified medals.
