Several Ugandan athletes will be in action on Tuesday at the ongoing African Games in Accra, Ghana.
There will be chance to increase the medal tally for Uganda especially in the track and field events plus boxing while the Men’s Rugby 7s Team start the quest for gold.
For the Uganda Hippos (U20 Men’s Football Team) they have a chance to write history as they take on Congo Brazzaville in the semifinals.
Below is a complete list of the Ugandan athletes in action today.
Boxing – Bukom Boxing Arena
After a successful Monday where Muzamiru Semuddu and Kasim Murungi progressed to the semi-finals thus already guaranteeing themselves medals, there will be pursuit for more glory.
Tuesday evening will witness Erina Namutebi take on Nigeria’s Cynthia Ogunsemilore in the quarter final of the women’s 60 kg category at 8:30PM EAT.
Isaac Owen Kibira will also be in action, taking on Tunisian opponent Zakaria Romdhani in the men’s 67 kg weight category at 12:15AM EAT
Athletics – University of Ghana Stadium
Women’s 400m Semifinals (7:3PM EAT)
Shida Leni qualified to the semifinals with a time of 53:42 and will be hoping to make a cut into the finals.
Men’s 400m Semifinals (7:50PM EAT)
Haron Adoli will equally be eyeing a slot in the final on Tuesday as he competes in the semifinals.
In the heats on Monday, Adoli came first in heat 4 with a time of 46.21.
Women’s Triple Jump Final – 8PM EAT
Winnifred Atimango will be in the final of the Women’s triple jump. She will be up against a field of ten other athletes.
Women’s 800m Final (10:05PM EAT)
Halima Nakaayi and Susan Aneno qualified for the final that will take place today.
In the semifinals, Nakaayi had the best time (2:03.59) across the three heats.
She will be joined by fellow countrywoman Susan Aneno who qualified by performance from heat 3, posting time of 2:04.73.
Men’s 800m Semifinals (10:20PM EAT)
Tom Dradiga was able to progress to the semifinals after coming third in heat 4 with a finishing time of 1:47.55.
Men’s 4x 100m Relay Heats (11:45PM EAT)
Uganda will come in Heat 1, competing against Mauritius, Ethiopia, Kenya, The Gambia, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo and Togo.
Basketball 3X3 – Legon Netball Court
Women’s 3X3
After the Ugandan Men’s team for Uganda got underway on Monday with two games against Togo and Democratic Republic of Congo, the Women will also take to court today.
Pooled in Group C, Uganda will take on Nigeria in the first game at 7:20PM EAT before facing Togo three hours later.
Men’s Football – Accra Sports Stadium
Uganda Hippos who have had a remarkable run at the tournament will be hoping to extend their fairytale run by edging Congo in the semifinals on Tuesday (8:00PM EAT) at Accra Sports Stadium.
The other semifinal between hosts Ghana and Senegal will also be played at the same venue.
Rugby 7s – University of Ghana Rugby Stadium
Uganda arrive in Accra fresh from the 7s Challenger Montevideo, Uruguay and are favourites to win.
It is the men that will test the murky waters first on Tuesday with two games on card.
The opening game for Uganda will be up against Burkina Faso at 2:22PM EAT before facing Tunisia at 5:44PM EAT.
It should be noted that the tournament will be played in a round robin format with each team playing six games.
