Rugby Sevens’ inaugural appearance at the African Games in Accra, Ghana was ushered in by an early morning downpour after ten days of scorching heat.

The tournament will be played at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium for the next three days.

For their first matches, both Uganda and Zimbabwe had nervy starts, having seen Burkina Faso upset Kenya in the opening match by 10-05 points.

The first half ended in a barren stalemate as Uganda and Zimbabwe sized themselves up.

Adrian Kasito scored the first try of the match deep in the second half from a turnover earned by captain Ian Munyani. Philip Wokorach converted easily in front of the uprights.

Despite Zimbabwe’s efforts to score points, Uganda got another try in the last play through Philip Wokorach. Timothy Kisiga converted for Uganda to take a 14-00 victory.

Uganda will take on Tunisia in the next match at 5.22 p.m. EAT. Tunisia beat Benin, 34-00, in their first match.
