Uganda Cranes new lads Nathan Asimwe and Tonny Sibbick cant wait to get their international careers.
Sibbick featuring for Scottish Premier League side Hearts FC where he plays a defender revealed this in an interview with FUFA upon arrival in Morocco where Uganda is preparing for two international friendlies against Ghana and Comoros.
“This is my first time being with the national team and I’m so excited to be called up,” Sibbick started.
“Can’t wait to meet the boys, see the team for the few games, so hopefully I can play in so many of them and carry on and be part of the side for the future,”
The defender born to an English father and Ugandan mother has been a regular for Hearts and has played over 24 games this season for Hearts with 18 coming in the league.
For Asiimwe, it’s a proud moment not only for him but his family as well as he only learnt of his summon last week.
“It’s the first time being called to the national team, it’s a proud moment for me and my family,” Asiimwe stated.
“It was unexpected as well. I just found out this (last) week. I’m looking forward to the change in environment because I’ve been at Charlton all my life.
“To experience something like this, so hopefully it goes well. I’m looking forward to the training, and helping the team in the matches as well. We have got good fixtures and I’ll just try to give my best for the team like I always do.”
Like Sibbick, Asiimwe is also a defender featuring for League One side Charlton Athletic in England.
The duo follows in footsteps of players like Bevis Mugabi, Ronald Mukiibi, Kayongo Mutumba, Lorenzen Marvin, Elvis Bwomono and Joel Kitamirike that have earned Uganda Cranes call-ups in the past after growing up in Europe.
