Anne Abeja was the best lady as women were celebrated during the March 2024 MTN Monthly Tee at Entebbe Golf Club on Saturday.
Playing off Handicap 14, Abeja returned a nett score of 70 to top the Ladies Group A ahead of the club’s Lady Captain Jovia Tugume who carded 73.
Abeja also claimed the prize for the ladies’ longest drive prize at the event themed Queens of the Green aimed at celebrating women.
Annette Nakiyaga topped Group B with 72 nett and Pamela Tumusiime took the runners-up spot with 76 nett.
Maxi Byenkya was the nearest to pin where a Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid had been staked by co-sponsors CFAO Motors for an ace.
Meanwhile, Loyd Busuulwa returned 66 nett to emerge the overall winner.
Playing off handicap 28, Busuulwa bagged his first major win since starting his golf career in 2021.
After picking his gong presented to him by MTN Uganda CEO Sylvia Mulinge, Busuulwa told the press it wasn’t a smooth round as he twice hit the ball out of bounds on the opening and last hole which attracted a two-stroke penalty.
“I’m happy for my win today because it wasn’t an easy round. It was a round of two nines, but the front nine pulled it for me. I drove the ball well and my putting was spot-on.
“I had some bad shots during the round especially when I twice went out of bounds but my putting saved the day,” Busuulwa admitted.
In the Men’s Group A, Allan Muhereza and Andrew Baguma walked to the podium with the former winning on countback.
Joseph Adrapi won Group B with Collins Nuwagira taking the runners-up place while Herbert Kamuntu and Jamil Maningi were the top performers in Group C as Sean Kinsella topped the seniors’ category.
Ruth Akello and Ivan Arinaitwe were the guest winners while Peter Magona and Joseph Bagabo walked away with the men’s longest drive and nearest to the pin prizes respectively.
