South Sudan, Eswatini, Liberia and Chad will now look ahead to the next phase of the qualifiers where they will join the 44 exempted countries for the group stage of the qualifiers

Preliminary stage second leg results

  • South Sudan 0-0 Sao Tome Principe [Agg: 1-1]
  • Liberia 0-0 Djibouti [Agg: 2-0]
  • Eswatini 2-2 Somalia [Agg: 5-2]
  • Mauritius 1-2 Chad [Agg: 1-3]

Joseph Dhata’s goal in the first leg proved key as South Sudan reached the group stages of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers group stages.

The Bright Stars drew 1-1 with Sao Tome and Principe in the reverse fixture away from home and held their nerves in the goalless draw in Morocco where they played hosts on Tuesday.

That gave them an away goals rule advantage following a 1-1 aggregate stalemate.

They are joined Liberia who eliminated Djibouti 2-0 overall after a goalless in Monrovia, Chad who beat Mauritius home and away to earn a 3-1 aggregate victory and Eswatini who overcame Somalia 5-2 on aggregate despite a 2-2 draw in the second leg.

The four will now look ahead to the next phase of the qualifiers where they will join the 44 exempted countries for the group stage of the qualifiers as they continue their journey towards securing a spot in the prestigious tournament in Morocco.
