Vipers SC secured a well-deserved 2-0 victory against Kitara FC in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Masindi Municipality Stadium on Friday.

The League defending champions showed character as they completed a double over Kitara to assume the log summit.

Donato Okello (own goal) and Abubaker Lawal’s strikes earned Vipers maximum points on the day.

It was a sweet revenge for Venoms who were earlier eliminated by the Royals from the Uganda Cup.

Witchcraft claims

Over the years, Uganda football has witnessed reports that several club officials, players and fans regularly indulge in witchcraft.

In the game between the two teams, a Vipers’ player (names withheld) called upon center referee Mashood Ssali complaining that Kitara’s defender had ‘juju’ in his shorts.

After a pull and push from both groups of players, the player handed over something to Mashood before he was asked to get off the pitch.

With 20 minutes to the final whistle, one of the stewards was seen going to the bus and picked something that was later handed over to the ball boy behind Vipers’ goal.

In no time, Vipers’ physiotherapist Micheal Lule rushed off the bench and got the stuff from the ball boy before he showed it to the officials and the fans were left bewildered.

Coincidentally, after six minutes, Vipers doubled their lead through Nigerian forward Abubaker Lawal hence silencing Kitara’s huge crowd.

More chaos

Vipers captain Milton Karisa was lifted off the field off play thrice. But each time he came off, the skipper complained of failure for clear sight.

Both technical benches kept exchanging words, it was heated in that Vipers refused to go back to the dressing rooms at full time.

In fact, after the game, one of the players who was substituted early was overheard complaining that throughout the game, he struggled with having a clear sight.
