The Thailand Pattaya Para powerlifting event is a world para powerlifting championship and as well the qualifying for Paris Paralympic games.

Uganda will be represented by three athletes for the upcoming Pattaya World Cup 2024, a World Para Powerlifting championship due in Thailand on 8th to 11th May.

The trio of Dennis Mbazira, Safalu Tamale and Muhammed Nigo will compete in this championship which is also a key qualifier for the Paris Paralympic Games (28th August to 8th September 2024) in France.

Mbazira will compete in the 88 Kg weight category, whilst Safalu and Nigo will take part in the 80 Kg weight cluster.

Team Uganda is expected to depart from Entebbe International Airport on the morning of Tuesday, 7th May 2024 via Air Arabia flight.

The Thailand Pattaya Para powerlifting event is a world para powerlifting championship and as well the qualifying for Paris Paralympic games.

Therefore the Ugandans and the rest of the athletes from elsewhere will therefore optimally utilize this platform to vie for the crucial points for the Paralympic Games due in the French city of Paris.

Kenneth Ssekilanda will be the team leader of the four man delegation and head coach. Ssekilanda expressed readiness for the tournament.

“We have been training well and expect to perform well in Thailand with high hopes of qualifying athletes to the Paralympic Games in Paris, France.” Ssekilanda vowed in an interview with Kawowo Sports.

Due to financial hardships, the traveling delegation was restricted to only three athletes and a coach with no official flag-off for the team.

After the event in Thailand, there will be two more events in Mexico and Georgia before the main Paralympic Games.

The Parapan American World cup will take place between 23rd to 26th May 2024 in Acapulco city, Mexico.

The last championship before the Paralympics will be the Tbilisi World Cup (20th to 26th June 2024) in Georgia.
