Overview:
Since retiring from the beautiful game as an active player, Mbabazi has since coached several clubs ranging from Lweza (coach player), Masavu, Wakiso Giants, Onduparaka, Kyetume, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), Arua Hill and lately Vipers. He has also coached the national team of Somalia and was part of the Uganda Cranes coaching staff under Johnathan McKinstry and Abdallah Mubiru.
Charles Livingstone Mbabazi has returned to Mbarara City Football Club for the third stint.
Mbabazi, a former Uganda Cranes international has been unemployed since parting ways with Vipers Sports Club on 2nd April 2024.
The CAF “B” certified coach agreed upon a two-year deal with the Ankole Lions and vowed to assemble the best team.
“It is exciting to work at Mbarara City Football Club. There is a lot of unfinished business there. Of course, I return a purified person” he disclosed to Kawowo Sports in a sit-down interview.
Mbabazi returns to the “land of milk” for the third term in his career after 2018-2019 and 2021 tenures, replacing Wasswa Bbosa who one year tenure ended at the apex of 2023-2024 season.

As a player, Mbabazi featured for the three traditional clubs in Uganda; Sports Club Villa, Express and KCCA (VEK).
He had a brief spell at Ivory Coast’s ASEC Mimosa, St Patrick Athletic (Ireland) as well as Vietnam’s Hà Nội FC and Becamex Binh Duong.
Upon return in Uganda, he played at Wandegeya, Soltilo Bright Stars and Lweza before announcing the official retirement.
He has also coached the national team of Somalia and was part of the Uganda Cranes coaching staff under Johnathan McKinstry and Abdallah Mubiru.
Mbabazi arguably rates among the finest coaches of the generation bar his suspect personal conduct.
