The 2024 Buganda Masaza football championship continued with more matches on match day one.
On Saturday, 29th June 2024, two matches were played; with Butambala and Buvuma hosting their contests against Buddu and Mawokota respectively.
Butambala edged visiting Buddu 1-0 at the Kibibi secondary school playground.
Yusuf Kato was the hero with the all-important goal, a well struck penalty for the maximum points.
Musitafa Kayinda, head coach for Butambala attributed the victory towards good preparations and belief during the match.
“We prepared the team well and during the game proper, the players gave 100 percent to win the contest. I therefore salute them for the fighting spirit and the fans who supported us throughout the game” Kayinda attested.
Meanwhile, islanders Buvuma and Mawokota settled for a non-scoring stalemate in the other game.
The matches continue on Sunday, 30th June 2024 at various venues.
Kyadondo, winners of this tournament in 2008 host Bugerere at the Homisdallen nusery and primary school in Gayaza.
In other games, five-time record winners Gomba open up the campaign for a sixth title with a home duel against Kyaggwe at the Kabulasoke PTC Playground.
Buweekula faces neighbours Ssingo at the Mubende NTC playground, Mawogola plays host Kooki at the Mawogola playground and Kabula will entertain islanders Ssese at the Bakijulula playground in Lyantonde.
Elsewhere, 2022 champions Busiro will play Busujju at the Ssentema playground.
This championship is bankrolled by Airtel Uganda, Centenary Bank, Kansai Plascon, Pilsner beer, Cbs and BBS Telefaina, UNAIDS and Uganda AIDS Commission.
