St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende successfully defended the Netball title during the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games two in Soroti city.
After a pulsating grand finale played at the Soroti main stadium on Wednesday afternoon, St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende won 34-24 over rivals Buddo Secondary School.
Right from the onset, St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende was dominant.
The record Netball national champions bossed the opening quarter 08-05. They extended the lead to 17-10 by the mandatory half-time break.
By the end of the third quarter, the writing was well spelt on the wall with St Mary’s Kitende stamping further authority on the game 28-17.
Buddo SS gallantly fought back in the last quarter; winning 8-6 but it was St Mary’s Kitende with the final laugh; taking the day 34-24 for the umpteenth time.
St Mary’s Kitende will laud goal-shooter Dalaia Nabbowa, goal-attacker Aisha Nakuya, Teopista Achieng (Goalkeeper), Joan Rycoboth (center), Khadala Nashimu (wing defender) and the diligent Nathema Sumaiya (winger attacker) for the brave collective team effort.
Buddo SS’ goal shooter Hassan Ponny Faridah was short of the ball supply for long spells of the sunny evening.
Her partner in crime Shamimu Hassan Saidi (goal-attacker) contributed a handful of goals.
St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende deservedly earned gold with Buddo SS taking silver.
Nashimu Khadala, wing defender for St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School was named the most valuable player of the tournament.
Besides Netball, the 2024 USSSA Ball Games 2 (FEASSSA games qualifiers) also had volleyball, basketball (3X3), rugby 7’s, handball and athletics.
The official grand climax of these games will be on Wednesday, 17th July 2024 at the Soroti main stadium.
