Cricket Cranes’ maiden appearance at the T20 World Cup in West Indies left many memories and on that journey, they had a strong partner in Lycamobile alongside them.
Lycamobile was announced as the official partner for the Cricket Cranes team for the World Cup and beyond.
Cricket Cranes won their first-ever World Cup game against PNG and despite losing to the test teams, the men in yellow left everyone on notice.
The partnership also extends to the Victoria Pearls, the first time the ladies’ side is associated with a commercial partner.
The focus for the Cricket Cranes after the World Cup is to chase ODI status once again with the first round of the Challenge League B being hosted by Uganda in November. In a group of six teams, the new change in the rules allows two teams from each group to move to the next round of the qualifiers. Uganda is in Group B alongside East Africans Tanzania, Hong Kong, Italy, Bahrain and Singapore.
The team was given at least five weeks off after the World Cup to reset after a jam-packed first half of the year. Head Coach Abhay Sharma knows that the work has properly started for him since joining the group in April.
The T20 World Cup Qualifiers will come around sometime next year but for now, the focus will be on the 50 Over format to make sure that Uganda get off to a great start in Group B and at home.
In 2022 Uganda only managed 3 wins out of the 5 games at home and ultimately this cost them a place in the next round of the qualifiers finishing in second behind Jersey.
The Cricket Cranes visited the LycaMobile Headquarters in the UK on their way back home and were given a tour of London as part of the visit. They also exchanged pleasantries with the LycaMobile Group Chairman Dr Subaskaran and presented him with a team-signed Cricket Cranes Jersey.
Up on their return home, Team Captain Brian Masaba together with the team management alongside the LycaMobile officials visited the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni at the State House. The meeting was to update the First Lady on the relationship between the two parties and the next steps of the relationship. LycaMobile has committed to extend its support beyond the national teams and ensure that the game grows in the country from the grassroots.
The highlight for the players was each one of the 15 that were part of the World Cup squad receiving a brand new iPhone 15 ProMax from LycaMobile for their World Cup effort.
The next engagements for the Cricket Cranes include an incoming tour of PNG in September and the Challenge League B tournament in November.
