Overview:
In Alebtong district, about 390 KM from the capital city, Kampala, a football tournament organized by the Ajuri county member of Parliament and Government Chief Whip Hon. Denis Hamson Obua got underway on December 13th 2024 and climaxed early 2025.
2024-2025 Obua – Ajuri Cup:
- Winners: Omoro football team
- 1st Runners up: Abako football team
Many sports tournaments in the countryside not only bring the residents together, but also, are a viable platform to showcase the rich untapped talents.
As the 2024-2025 Obua – Ajuri football championship was held, such was the agenda at hand.
In Alebtong district, about 390 KM from the capital city, Kampala, a football tournament organized by the Ajuri county member of Parliament and Government Chief Whip Hon. Denis Hamson Obua got underway on December 13th 2024 and climaxed early 2025.
Formidable teams from Abako, Adwir, Awei, Amugu, Omoro, Angetta and Amugu (Town Council) healthily competed.
Each of these seven teams were well facilitated with a full set of jerseys prior to the tournament proper.

By close of the championship in February 2025, Omoro had emerged champions.
Besides earning a trophy and gold medals, Omoro team also got a hefty cash reward of Ug.Shs 4,000,000.
Abako, the first runners up earned silver medals and a cash prize of UGX 3,000,000.
The third-placed team got Ug.Shs 2,000,000 whilst the remaining four participating teams each received Ug.Shs1,500,000 as recognition for their efforts.


The Obua-Ajuri football tournament is not just about competition but a platform for grassroots talent identification. There were scouts to single out the outstanding players who could be nurtured for greater opportunities in football.

Hon. Obua is a member of the Parliamentary football team and known for his sheer love for sports.
Apart from football, he has also supported a number of other sports disciplines as netball, volleyball, cycling, athletics, among others.
As a former minister of state for sports, he has remained loyal towards the general promotion of sports in the culture and a key advocate for sports infrastructural development.
