Former FIFA Referee Fredrick Mufta was recognized with the life time achievement award by the Real Stars Sports Agency.

Mutfa, 52, was singled out for his enormous contribution to the beautiful game, nearly 12 years after his retirement.

“The life time achievement award is humbling. I am shocked to receive it. This is my first” he smiled as he received the plaque from Isaac Mukasa, the Executive Director of Real Stars Sports Agency.

Mufta diligently served football for nearly two decades, handling many high profile local and international engagements, including the Zamalek and Al Ahly duel in Cairo.

He is now the sales and marketing director at Cavendish University, having previously served as a senior lecturer at the school of post-graduate studies and research.

He boldly tags refereeing as a healthy life-style.

“Refereeing is a life-style. I officially retired from refereeing in 2013 but I train every day. I watch matches and do refereeing as I watch.” He spoke.

Mufta salutes a number of stakeholders in the football industry who precipitated his good deeds; pointing out fellow referees and instructors, players, administrators, media persons and the fans.

In particular, he acknowledged Charles Masembe, Arthur Bukenya, Nelson Mubanda, Ali Tomusange, Edgar Watson (current FUFA CEO and former Sports Club Villa player), Hussein Mbalangu (current head coach of NEC Football Club); among others.

He still vividly recalls how he sent off Mbalangu in 7 matches of the 9 matches he officiated when he was in action; including two yellow cards.

“Mbalangu was a tough and aggressive player. I remember giving him 7 red cards, 2 yellow cards in the 9 matches I handled when he was playing. We ended up being close friends” he recollected.

Mufta is best remembered for his smartness, commanding display and articulate decisions whilst he executed his duties on the field of play.
