Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards (Best of February 2025)

The Fortebet Real Stars sports monthly awards to reward the best performing sports personalities for February 2025 was held at Lazio restaurant in Kololo, Kampala on Tuesday, 4th March.

Cricket, Football and Basketball were recognized with one lifetime achievement award to retired international referee Fred Mufta.

Cricket Cranes Juma Miyaji, Lugazi football club player Abdul Kalanzi and basketballer Jane Asinde were all rewarded.

Miyaji beat off stiff competition from teammates Henry Ssenyondo and Raghav Dhawan.

The first pace bowler led Uganda to another unbeaten streak in the second round of the just concluded ICC Challenge League B Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Hong Kong.

Miyaji was the standout bowler for the Uganda Cricket Cranes where he also earned the player of the match against Tanzania after taking 6 wickets for 17 runs in 8.1 overs.

The youngster picked up a total of 12 wickets, the most in the tournament from 123 balls.

The 6 came against Tanzania from 17 balls, 4 against Bahrain from 52 balls and 2 against Hong Kong from 54 balls.

“I am excited to have won this award” Miyaji who also earned a plaque and Ug.Shs 500,000 revealed.

“The credit goes to the entire team for the effort well done. Credit is a team sport and I shower the praise to every member on the team” he added.

Other winners:

In basketball, Jane Asinde won the accolade over Shillah Lamunu and John Deng Geu

Asinde was voted the MVP of the FIBA Zone Afro-Basket Qualifiers in Egypt.

She led the Uganda Gazelles to a 74-63 victory over Egypt in the final, averaging 18.8 points per game, including 19 points in the final.

Asinde also averaged 10 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game and was her highest score of the qualifiers was 28 points against South Sudan.

Football

For football, Lugazi FC talisman Abdul Kalanzi won the accolade; beating off Vipers’ on-form player Allan Okello and Kitara forward Henry Patrick Kaddu.

Kalanzi scored four goals in four games in the month of February.

The two goals are in the Uganda Premier League and another two from the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Currently, Lugazi seats 11th in the Uganda Premier League with 20 points, and the Mabira side qualified for the last 16 of the Uganda Cup after beating Calvary 2-0 and Kalanzi was on the scoresheet.

“I am humbled to be here. I thank the organizers of these awards and my fellow teammates plus the coaches” Kalanzi acknowledged.

Meanwhile, former FIFA Referee Fred Mufta was recognized with the lifetime achievement award.

Now working with Cavendish University in the marketing department Mufta served the beautiful game for over 2 decades before he retired 15 years ago.

He is best remembered for his smartness and accurate decisions whilst he executed his duties on the field of play.

The Fortebet Real Stars monthly awards are organized by Real Stars sports agency.

Isaac Mukasa, the executive director of the Real Stars sports agency commends the work of sport media towards promoting these awards and sports personalities in general.
