Vipers SC ensured they maintained a firm grip at the top of the table after edging Police FC on Thursday at Kavumba Recreation Ground.

In an encounter of limited scoring chances, Yunus Sentamu found the lone goal of the game to guide the Venoms to victory.

Sentamu scored three minutes after recess, thanks to a cutback pass from Vipers skipper on the day, Allan Okello.

From the onset, the game was fairly balanced with either side failing to find the much-needed breakthrough.

Sentamu thought he had opened the scores in the 27th minute when he had the ball into the back of the net but his effort was ruled out for offside.

The decisive moment came three minutes after the break when Okello made a good run on the left before laying up Sentamu who fired home from close range at the far post.

Victory takes Vipers SC to 46 points, six ahead of NEC FC who visit Wakiso Giants FC on Friday.

Police FC on the other hand remain in 13th place on 20 points just above the red zone.
