Victoria Pearls got close to snatching a win against Nepal when they pushed the game deep with 6 runs required off 6 balls to defeat Nepal.

Nepal had just one wicket but the 10th wicket partnership managed to hold on and find the winning runs with a ball to spare.

In the overcast conditions at the Lakeside Oval in Entebbe, Nepal won the toss and elected to bowl first. They backed this decision with a wicket off the first ball of the game as Uganda’s captain Janet Mbabazi trapped in front and that wicket just put the handbrake on for Uganda.

The batting from the hosts lacked any intent and a couple of loose shots at the wrong time made the run-scoring difficult. Uganda eventually only managed to put on 75/7 in their allotted 20 Overs. The application missing from the big players who played in just one gear throughout the innings.

In the run chase, Nepal got out of the blocks quickly but some careless running between the wickets stalled their progress which gave a glimmer of hope to Uganda. Consy Aweko and Sarah Akiteng were outstanding with the ball but the others struggled and leaked runs that eventually let the team down.

Sarah Walaza was unable to defend six runs with a ball to spare, Nepal inflicting defeat on the hosts to get off the mark during the series.

The second game of the day served up more sauce as Hong Kong China chased down 112 runs against Namibia. The top 2 teams in the series both on the wrong end of the result on Day 2.

Uganda defeated Hong Kong China on Day 1, while Namibia won a nail bitter against Nepal which leaves all the teams with a win and a loss each.

The first round will conclude today when Namibia takes on Uganda while Nepal takes on Hong Kong China.
