The 23rd edition of the Akii Bua Memorial Invitational Meet will be held this Saturday, 7th June 2025 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
This meet, now a bronze level event (with a $50,000 prize fund), is the key event for Uganda Athletics which is celebrating 100 years since its inception.
For starters, Akii Bua is the legendary Ugandan athlete who won gold at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany when he set a world record in the men’s 400m hurdles with a time of 47.82.
The elite athletes from Uganda are joined by number of international invitations from Kenya, Burundi, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
The day’s program will start with a Police band march from Police headquarters, Naguru to Mandela National Stadium.
By 8 am, the flag off for the 10 KM fun race will be done by World champion Joshua Cheptegei.
The morning program has kids athletics, athletics comedy, gymnastics demonstration and 2000m steeplechase fun run.
The program for the elite runners starts by 2:30 pm with the shot put (men), long jump (women), 400m hurdles (men), 15000m (women), 100m (women), Javelin throw (women) and other events as shot put, discuss throw, javelin throw and long jump.
