Overview:
Gayaza Junior School was founded in 1905 and with its enviable rich history, it has maintained the status quo of producing the crème de la crème citizens for mother nation Uganda. Over the years, this has been well maintained with the school core values of Godliness, integrity, perseverance, responsibility, discipline, respect and creativity.
At Gayaza Junior School, the school motto is well chorused aloud, everyday; “NEVER GIVE UP!BANNO”.
From the joy, energy, passion and sheer love expressed by the pupils of the school during the recent visit of the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) president Adekoyejo Adegbesan, the writing was scripted on the wall, in bold – No giving up.

Excitement engulfed the entire school as Adegebesan visited the school part of the continental Scrabble Trophy Tour ahead of the 16th Pan African Scrabble Championship due in Kenya this year.
The Nigerian national was wooed by the warm reception accorded to him at the 1905 founded school.

“I have seen the impressive numbers at Gayaza Junior School” he opened up.
“PANASA will ensure all the necessary resources are provided to promote the sport in Uganda” he added.

Tour to countries:
It has become a tradition for the Trophy Tour across all the participating countries for the bi-annual youth championship.
Kenya, Zambia, South Africa, Ghana, Togo, Liberia and Nigeria are the other countries where the tour traversed.

2025 will mark the second edition of the youth championship which was launched in 2023 to complement the senior continental event that has run for 16 years now.
Sarah Tebugulwa Kizito, the Gayaza Junior School headmistress saluted Pan Africa Scrabble Association (PANASA) for choosing their school to be part of the trophy tour in Uganda.

“Gayaza Junior School is honoured in a special way to be part of the Trophy Tour program. We thank PANASA, the president and everybody involved. As we celebrate 120 years, we wholesomely embrace the game of Scrabble among our sporting activities.” Tebugulwa stated.
Scrabble is one game that sharpens pupils’ skills in English, mathematics and critical thinking.
It also opens the doors to global opportunities and networking purposes.
