Bunyaruguru United Football Club from Rubirizi district has qualified to the second tier division of Uganda’s football, FUFA Big League.

The feat followed a 4-1 victory in post-match penalties over Rwenzori Lions.

Bunyaruguru United won the return leg of the promotional playoff 1-0 to level the aggregate scores 1-all and push for the dramatic tense shoot-out.

Muhammad Kasule scored Bunyarunguru United’s solitary goal in the second half.

Jajja Mugerwa attributed their prowess to the high level of disciplined, hardworking and committed players that were precipitated by the reliable financial muscle from the club patron Hon. David Katureebe Tugume, also an aspiring member of parliament for Rubirizi district.

Bunyaruguru United joins Kampala’ region’s CATDA and Eastern region’s Iganga United who have already gained their slots in the second dividion.

The four slot will be taken by either Nebbi Central (West Nile) or Young Elephants (Northern region).

The second leg between Nebbi Central and Young Elephants will be played on 29th June 2025.

Nebbi Central has a slim 1-0 advantage from the first leg.

Four clubs were demoted from the 2024-2025 FUFA Big League; Booma, MYDA, Busoga United and Arua Hill.
