Ivan Ahimbisibwe: Uganda Cranes has the desire and character prior to CHAN 2024

CHAN 2024 (Uganda Cranes’ group C matches):

• Monday, 4^th August 2025: Uganda Vs Algeria – Mandela National Stadium, Namboole (8:00 PM)

• Friday, 8^th August 2025: Guinea Vs Uganda – Mandela National Stadium, Namboole (8:00 PM)

• Monday, 11^th August 2025: Uganda Vs Niger – Mandela National Stadium, Namboole (8:00 PM)

• Monday, 18^th August 2025: South Africa Vs Uganda – Mandela National Stadium, Namboole (8:00 PM)

CHAN 2014 is just hours to kick-off with the official opening match between Tanzania and Burkina Faso at the Benjamin Mpaka stadium in Dar es Salaam on 2^nd August 2025.

48 hours later, Uganda will open their campaign with a duel against the Algeria Desert Foxes at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Monday, 4^th August 2025.

The Cranes has further amplified their training sessions at the training ground of Namboole stadium.

Forward Ivan “The Hunter” Ahimbisibwe cites two push factors; the desire and character as key leads to the glory seeking Uganda Cranes at home.

The new KCCA football club striker who scored 16 goals last season in all competitions for URA openly expressed the readiness to compete.

“We are focused and ready to roar” he pointed with boldness.

“We have the desire and character to break barriers as we target to advance out of the group phase for the first time” he added.

He also spoke of the intense training drills that the team has undertaken and the warm up duels held in Karatu, Tanzania against the host country Tanzania and Senegal.

“It is an honour to be part of the 25 man final squad. The training has been intense and we recently had warm-up matches against Tanzania and Senegal which were very helpful” Ahimbisibwe stated.

On Wednesday, 30^th July 2025, Uganda Cranes will once against train at the training ground of Mandela National Stadium in the morning hours.

Uganda is pooled in group C alongside two West African countries Guinea and Niger, South Africa and North Africans, Algeria.

Niger arrived first at the Entebbe International Airport on Tuesday, 29^th July 2025.

Uganda Cranes’ matches:

Uganda Cranes open up the campaign against Algeria on Monday, 4^th August 2025.

The second match will be against Guinea on Friday, 8^th August.

The third game comes on Monday, 11^th August against Niger and the last group game will be against South Africa on Monday, 18^th August before the knock out round will come in.

For starters, the CHAN tournament brings together players who ply their trade in the respective domestic leagues.

Now in the 8^th edition, it will be played from from 2^nd to 30^th August 2025 across the  vibrant East African nations of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Last week on Friday, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officially launched the Uganda’s Local Organizing Committee official website, logo and the team jersey for Uganda Cranes at the Kololo Ceremonial Independence Grounds, Kampala.

Senegal is the reigning champion.
