Uganda Cranes coach Morley Byekwaso is confident that his troops will respond after falling to Algeria in the opening game of CHAN 2024.

Uganda Cranes suffered a 3-0 loss to agile Algeria in the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) encounter at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Monday.

“It’s a tough situation but I am confident that the lads will bounce back and respond to the loss,” he stated.

“Losing happens. What matters is how you come back. It’s cowards who give up. It’s time to remain as a team and united. We have more games to play and if we win all then we shall be in a better place,” he added.

“This game has given us a good challenge. We ought to go back and correct our mistakes as soon as possible. It’s going to be a mental discussion because all that matters is to deal with the upstairs.”

Byekwaso admitted Uganda Cranes were second-best and have to make swift adjustments going forward.

“We wanted to win but struggled especially in the first half. We could not break their lines but whenever we did we were a threat though we got abit exposed,” he stated.

“We need to have more control of the game. We are also still struggling to utilise our No. 9 and No. 10 because we failed to control the midfield. That must change,” the gaffer stressed.

Uganda returns to action on Friday as they take on Guinea at 8 PM while the early kick-off will see Algeria lock horns with South Africa.

  1. Coach byekwaso is the one who disorganized the middle field,we wouldn’t have conceded many goals by his changes made us to be penalized by Algeria, even no 3 and 11 never worked well,no creativity with no 8 n no 9 was no where to be seen apart from kakande who tried to take shorts on target of the goal,
