Tanzania legend Mbwana Ally Samatta has joined French Ligue I side Le Havre.
The striker joined the French top tier side on a one-year contract becoming the first Tanzanian to play in the division signing from Greece’s PAOK.
The club website, unveiling the 32-year-old centre forward who will don jersey 70 described him as an icon and a top celebrity in Tanzania.
“In Tanzania, there are two celebrities: Kilimanjaro and Ally Samatta. And even though HAC is used to moving mountains, it was simpler (and more useful!) to bring in the leader of the Taifa Stars, the nickname for the Tanzanian national football team,” read a statement on the Le Havre AC website.
Samatta moved to Europe from TP Mazembe joining Belgian side KRC Genk where he established himself as one of the hottest forwards in the division winning the championship on several times.
This earned him a move to the English Premier League with Aston Villa and later played at Fenerbahce, Antwerp, Genk again, then PAOK Salonika, where he played for two seasons, winning the Greek championship title a year ago.
The Taifa Stars captain will play at the 2025 Africa Nations Cup in Morocco in December.
