- Uganda vs. South Africa
- Mandela National Stadium, Namboole – 8:00 pm
Uganda Cranes have everything in their hands as they chase CHAN history at Mandela National Stadium – Namboole against South Africa in the last group C match.
Morley Byekwaso’s charges lead the group with six points and a draw against third-placed Bafana Bafana, on a point behind, will ensure qualification to the quarterfinals for the first time in seven attempts.
For Byekwaso and Uganda, there is more to play for than just reaching the knockout stage as a win will ensure Uganda plays the quarterfinal home.
“We know it will be a very tough game, but we are ready. This is our moment to make history. We are leading the group and want to maintain the solidity that has brought us here,” said Byekwaso.
For his opposite number in the dugout, Molefi Ntseki believes his side can just do enough despite the odds stark against them as the Cranes will have a full capacity stadium behind them.
“We are fully aware that this is a decisive game. For us, it is a final. The pressure is on Uganda, who are playing at home and are expected to win. We will focus on our strategy and take advantage of transition moments.”
He believes his men can draw strength from past battles. “We beat Egypt in Cairo, with passionate fans. We know how to handle the pressure.”
Meanwhile, Uganda can still lose and reach the next stage if Niger stun Algeria at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

With Joel Sserunjogi absent through suspension, Byekwaso has a big decision to make in who starts in the anchorman role.
Youngman is reported unfit and that leaves Elvis Ngonde as the perfect natural replacement, although one of the best centre-backs in Arnold Odong can offer a solution as well.
Elsewhere, Algeria must beat Niger to ensure progress to the last eight in a highly anticipated clash in Nyayo.
