Two late penalties secured a much-needed point for Uganda Cranes as they rallied from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.

A halftime lead through Jude Ssemugabi well-constructed goal didn’t deter South Africans from rallying before two penalties, including one awarded by VAR, were converted by Allan Okello and captain Rogers Torach.

Did well to keep out two goal bound shots in either half but will take a blame for his decision making on the third as he was attracted by the ball out of his area.

Gavin Kizito 5/10:

Had a difficult first half against Keegan Dolly and caught of out of position several times, including for Bafana Bafana’s third goal.

Herbert Achai 6/10:

Slept on duty for South Africa’s second goal after he played the ball out for a throw-in but was a menace with his crosses in the last minutes as Bafana Bafana defended their lead. Otherwise, a torrid evening against Wayne Jooste.

Hilary Mukundane 6/10:

Initiated the move for Uganda’s opening goal with his weighted pass to Reagan Mpande. Had a lot of trouble against strikers when South Africa attacked.

Rogers Torach 6.5/10:

Scored the all-important goal from the penalty as he kept his nerves. His defence-stretching diagonal passes were decent but had lots of shaky moments.

Enock Ssebagala 5/10:

Played deeper in the absence of suspended Sserunjogi but didn’t have control of the midfield. A couple of decent touches kept fans cheering.

Karim Watambala 5/10:

Not the best of performance from the midfield engine in an unfamiliar territory and was bossed by the man of the match Ndlondlo, often.

Allan Okello 6/10:

A few decent moments but indecisive on some moments that could have handed Cranes a healthier halftime lead. Converted a pressure penalty to restore hope in the 88th minute.

Patrick Kakande 6/10:

Created the opening goal with a precise cutback to Ssemugabi but often out muscled off the ball when he drew opponents with his ball carrying skills.

Jude Ssemugabi 6/10:

A willing runner who finally got his reward with his first tournament goal after a brilliant run.

Reagan Mpande 5/10:

Put in some dangerous balls including one in the lead up to the first goal but was otherwise a shadow of the player that has impacted games since he earned a starting position.

Substitutes

Ivan Ahimbisibwe 6/10:

Replaced Mpande in the 64th minute and won the penalty that ignited the comeback.

Yunus Sentamu 5/10:

Didn’t get the service he craved for after replacing Kakande midway through the second half.

Usama Arafat N/A

Another late appearance in the tournament for the KCCA out-of-contract winger.

  1. the third goal, Okello was partly to responsible his indecisiveness, Semugabi naye kibulamu look at the way he controls the ball, I think the coaches starts him because of his physique, Achai was good, I long to see Sentamu start, Kawanda can’t play beyond 45 minutes

    Thanks for this @Isma @Kawowo
