Ethiopian celebrated football referee Bamlak Tessema Weyesa, 42, has officially announced his retirement, marking an end to a career that has spanned more than two decades.
In his letter to FIFA Refereeing department, Tessema is proud of the journey he has moved, indicating it was a privilege to represent his country.
“I am writing to formally announce my retirement from international football refereeing, a journey that has been both an honor and a privilege representing Ethiopia on the global stage.” He stated.
Tesseme started refereeing in 2003 in Ethiopia and six years later, he received the prestigous FIFA badge.
Since then, the Ethiopian has hit heights, officiating at several tournaments including the Africa Cup of Nations, African Nations Championship and above all the 2018 FIFA World Cup where he was a fourth official.
His last appointment came at the just concluded CHAN 2024 held in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda where he served as a Video Assistant Referee.
