Jacob Kiplimo

Uganda’s long distance runner Jacob Kiplimo won the 2025 Chicago Marathon with a time of 2:02:23 on Sunday, 12th October.

It was a dominant performance from Kiplimo, who remained close to the head of the pack the entire race.

After trailing last year’s winner John Korir early on, Kiplimo made his move around the halfway point.

From there, he was able to lengthen his lead. Kiplimo was threatening for the world record as late as the 22nd mile.

But he slowed down as the race reached its final stage. By the time he got to the next mile marker, Kiplimo was already out of world-record range.

His finishing time of 2:02:23 ranks seventh all time. It also set the new Ugandan national record from 2:03:27 that he had set during the London Marathon in April 2025 when he earned silver.

The Kenyan duo of Amos Kipruto and Alex Masai were second and third respectively.

Kiplimo finished just over a minute and a half faster than Kipruto, who surged to second place and finished with a time of 2:03:54.

Masai came in third with a 2:04:37 time.

Congratulatory messages from different persons and institutions across the world have filtered through to laud Kiplimo’s success.
