NEC FC will blame themselves for not picking maximum points against Police FC as the two teams faced off on Saturday at MTN-Omondi Stadium under the lights.
The Die Hards led 2-0 with five minutes to play but ended up relinquishing their lead and the game eventually ended in a two-all draw.
Mustafa Kizza opened the scoring from the spot in the third minute while Joseph Dhata doubled the lead for the hosts at the hour mark.
However, Police stepped up efforts in the closing stages, first through Charles Bbale who pulled one back in the 85th minute before Umar Kasumba tucked home from the spot deep into added time.
NEC started the better side and it took them only three minutes to get onto the score sheet. Saidi Kyeyune fouled Dhata in the box to give away a penalty which Kizza calmly converted sending goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga the wrong way.
Police had the chance to score in the 20th minute through Lawrence Tezikya but he arrived slightly late and failed to connect to Brian James Obedi’s cross.
It was instead Dhata who got the second goal for the hosts, being in the right place to head home from Charles Waibi’s cross.
With the game destined for the end, the Cops upped up their efforts and indeed walked away with a point. Substitutes Kasumba and Bbale combined to score the two vital goals.
Bbale put Police back into the game in the 85th minute, scorinf direct from a free kick. His low drive went through the NEC wall and into the bottom right corner.
In the second minute of added time, Police were awarded a penalty for a foul on Emmanuel Mugume and Kasumba made no mistake to score and secure a point for his team.
The result means Police moves up to fourth place with as many goals while NEC remain winless in their opening two games, both ending in draws.
