- St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende 7pm
Premier League champions Vipers target first leg advantage when they face Zambia’s Power Dynamos in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the Caf Champions League.
The Venoms eliminated African Stars of Namibia 2-0 on aggregate in the previous round while the Zambians overcame ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast on penalties following a 1-1 draw over two legs.
With the crowd expected to be full to capacity at Kitende, for only the second time, Vipers must seize the opportunity if they are to reach the lucrative stages of the competition.
For the first time in a long time, Ugandan football fans are united in support of the premier league and Uganda Cup holders following their stance on the league new format that has since been suspended.
It is the first time since the opening of the stadium that tickets have sold out.
Milton Karisa, then scored against Platinum Stars of South Africa in the Caf Confederation Cup and is still available for selection at Kitende which means experience.
Alongside Yunus Sentamu, Hilary Mukundane, Karim Watambala and Tadeo Lwanga, he will be key alongside star boy Allan Okello as Jacky Ivan Minnaet looks to goal scoring options and experience.
In 1998, the Zambians, Caf winners Cup victors in 1991 eliminated Uganda’s KCCA and will hope history repeats itself.
Despite possession of pedigree over the Venoms, the Kitwe based side have never played in the group stages of the interclub competitions since reverting to the new format in the early 2000s yet Vipers did two seasons ago at the expense of TP Mazembe.
