  • First Leg Results: Vipers 1-2 Power Dynamos

Vipers head to the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola with a huge mountain to climb if they are to reach the lucrative Caf Champions League group stages for only the second time.

The Venoms lost the first leg 2-1 at Kitende seven days ago despite taking the lead and must now win 2-0 to overturn the disappointing result.

Vipers captain Milton Karisa admits his team were not good enough in the reverse fixture but hold belief they can still stun the 1991 Caf winners cup champions in front of their fans on Zambia’s Independence Day.

“I feel like we didn’t show our best selves for 90 minutes in the first leg and it kind of cost us,” Karisa said. “If we have no belief for Power Dynamos, we have no chance. We have to believe in ourselves going into the second leg. We’ve got to believe — let’s do it together, Venoms,” he stressed.

His coach Jacky Ivan Minnaert is also adamant that they can pull it off in Ndola.

“The positives we carried on from the first leg is that we have 90 minutes to play,” Minnaert said. “Power Dynamos showed their hunger. I think we have the ability, we certainly have the quality, and now we have to prove it.”

“Hopefully we have learned and can show the composure, the determination, and the belief that is very important,” he added. “Tomorrow, we know what we are going to face, and it’s going to be tough. So, to my players — be very focused, very determined, and go for it.”

Without suspended Kevin Baddy Daslyva, Minnaert will be forced to right changes at the back with Rogers Torach likely to slot in at the heart of defence alongside Hilary Mukundane.

The Belgian and his staff also have a huge decision to make on several position with Enock Luyima and Derrick Ndahiro fighting for a left back position.

In midfield, Enock Ssebagala could be installed from the start alongside Taddeo Lwanga and Karim Watambala pushing Allan Okello a little further in a more advanced forward role on the right side of a three-man attack.
