Coming off a 154-point win against the Kigezi Silverbacks, the Black Pirates visited Makerere Rugby Grounds and secured a second win of the Uganda Cup campaign.

The 26-10 victory over Rams wasn’t as emphatic as the first, but it left lessons to be picked by the Bweyogerere boys.

The experiment of Isaac Newton Massangazira Kityo at flyhalf had so far paid dividends. Arguably the best tackler and defender in the game, Massa has turned defence into offence. In the 10 position, Massa opened the scoring for the Pirates. Two penalties in front of the poles took the pirates 6 points ahead, before Massa attempted and missed an audacious shot from the halfway line.

Another Massa penalty sent the pirates into half time with a 9-point lead, leaving behind a half to forget.

The Rams baited Pirates into playing a physical game, with the hosts coming out on top at every encounter. The Rams deployed their tried and tested holding up tactic that frustrated the Pirates.

At the start of the second half, the Rams got a lucky opening when Solomon Aryampa picked a loose ball and offloaded to Reagan Mungu who scored between the poles. A Ryan Juuko conversion piled more pressure on the Pirates, who were now just in touching distance.

The introduction of William Nkore in the second half opened that gates for Pirates. A try from the substitute and Nathan Bwambale gave the pirates a comfortable lead, before Sydney Gongodyo sealed the game.

The Rams fought back with a penalty kick but it was a little too late.

The game ended 26-10, with Massa taking home the man of the match accolade.
