For over two decades, Tackle (formally known as Tackle Africa) has been harnessing the unifying power of football to educate, inspire, and empower young people across Africa.

Founded on the belief that sport can be a force for social transformation, Tackle has grown from a single-country initiative into a continent-wide movement addressing key issues such as sexual health, gender equality, and youth empowerment.

In Uganda, where Tackle is firmly established, the organisation has continued to deliver impactful community programmes that use football as an educational platform. Through partnerships with schools, academies, clinics, hospitals, NGO’s, communities and youth groups, Tackle’s coaches and educators have reached tens of thousands of young people — sparking life-changing conversations about health (sexual and mental), relationships, and leadership.

Now, Uganda stands as a flagship country for Tackle’s East African expansion, serving as a base for scaling projects across the region, including Kenya, Zambia, and Tanzania.

Building Partnerships beyond the Pitch

While football remains the heart of Tackle’s mission, golf has become a key part of how the organisation builds and sustains partnerships.

The Tackle Charity Golf Days, first introduced in the United Kingdom, bring together business leaders, athletes, and supporters who share a passion for social impact. These events have become vital fundraising and networking platforms that allow Tackle to expand its programmes and deepen community reach.

Following the success of these tournaments in the UK, Tackle is now hosting its first-ever Ugandan edition at the Serena Lake Victoria Golf Resort & Spa on Saturday, November 8 — a historic milestone that will unite sport, philanthropy, and corporate engagement under one shared purpose: Empowering Africa’s Youth.

Global Ambassadors and Sporting Icons

Tackle’s mission continues to be supported by some of football’s most recognised names.

Legends such as Ashley Cole, Peter Crouch, Steve Sidwell, and Clinton Morrison have all stood alongside Tackle at its UK golf events and football marathons, championing the cause both on and off the course.

The organisation also proudly counts Serge Gnabry, the Bayern Munich and Germany star, among its global ambassadors. His partnership with Tackle goes far beyond advocacy as he personally donates a percentage of his wages to fund grassroots initiatives and educational programmes across Africa, ensuring young people have access to life skills, mentorship, and opportunities.

Expanding across East Africa

As Tackle broadens its reach across East Africa, the sense of unity and shared purpose continues to grow.

A delegation of supporters has travelled from the United Kingdom to Uganda to witness first-hand the transformational work being done on the ground. They are joined by regional teams from Kenya and Zambia, showcasing the continental scale of Tackle’s commitment.

In Uganda, local champions like MamiDeb and Michael Cleave (formerly of Kampala Creame and working with PlayItLoud in conjunction with NRG), together with Corporate Social and Wellness Clubs such as C Club, have become powerful allies in spreading Tackle’s message — that sport can be a tool for empowerment, education, and lasting change.

A Global Movement: From the Fairways to the Finish Line

Beyond golf, Tackle continues to engage the global community through events such as the Tackle Marathon in Germany, which this year brought together supporters from across Europe to run for a cause — funding education and health initiatives for young people in Africa.

These events form part of Tackle’s broader vision to unite people around the world through sport, bridging the gap between passion and purpose.

Looking Ahead

As Tackle celebrates nearly 25 years of impact, the journey is far from over. The next chapter focuses on expanding programmes, deepening partnerships, and empowering the next generation through sport, education, and opportunity.

From the football fields of Kampala to the fairways of Kigo and the stadiums of Europe, Tackle’s mission remains clear — changing lives through sport, one community at a time.
