The Lady Rugby Cranes 7s team to represent Uganda at the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s 2025 has been named ahead of the tournament.
What started as an 18-player provisional training squad has now been reduced to a 12-player tournament team consisting of 5 forwards and 7 backs.
The Squad has remained largely unchanged from that team that represented Uganda at the Safari 7s this year in October, but two major inclusions have been added by coach Charles Onen. Former team captain, Peace Lekuru, has returned to the team after being away with York Valkyrie in the English Rugby League. Samiya Ayikoru makes a comeback as well, having last featured for the national team in the Rugby Africa Women’s 15s.
Notable omissions from the Safari 7s team include National 7s top scorer Comfort Angayika, who is replaced by Unity Namulala, while the latter’s Nile Rapids team mate Tina Akello is also out of the squad.
Several factors, like school commitments, injury and illness, have kept out a few players from not only putting in a shift in training, but also making the tournament squad.
The Rugby Africa Women’s 7s shall take place from 15th to 16th November at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, Kenya.
Uganda is in Group C with Zambia and Burkina Faso, and will play both sides on Day 1 of the tournament before the knockout stages commence on Day 2.
