Uganda U17 Boys’ National Football Team Head Coach Brian Ssenyondo will be in a spot of bother as he prepares for the Round of 16 game at the ongoing FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar.
The Cubs have been remarkable at the tournament and once again extended their Cinderella story on Saturday by overcoming Senegal at the Round of 32.
Whereas the joy of progressing is still in the air, for coach Brian Ssenyondo, the suspension of striker James Bogere will have him scratching his head.
Bogere has arguably been the outstanding performer for Uganda, scoring twice at the tournament, including a crucial winner against France early this week.
The lethal forward, however, has been booked twice at the tournament (against France and today against Senegal), which automatically rules him out of the next game.
For coach Ssenyondo, the most likely replacement for Bogere is Simon Wanyama. The Bukedea Comprehensive School student is yet to make an impact at the World Cup, but he can rise to the occasion when called upon.
If selected for the round of 16 game, the biggest question will be whether he can ably fill the void left by Bogere.
Uganda will play either Germany or Burkina Faso at the round of 16 on Tuesday, 18th November 2025.
