Uganda’s Lady Cranes 7s looked past their semifinal defeat to Kenya once again to claim bronze in the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s.

The Cranes started the 3rd-place playoff with a high sense of urgency, scoring 3 quick converted tries through Peace Lekuru, Samiya Ayikoru and Grace Nabaggala.

Madagascar then responded with a beautiful team try, beating the Cranes’ defense with flawless offloads. That try chipped away 7 points from the Ugandans, but tries from Suzan Adong and Lydia Namabiro extended the lead once again, to 33 points to 12 this time.

The introduction of Yvonne Najjuma in the second half injected fresh energy into the Cranes, as it has done throughout the tournament.

Najjuma proved too strong for the Maki Ladies, gaining valuable post-contact meters, before offloading to Unity Namulala, who scored in the middle.

The Lady Cranes may have finished third again at the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s, but Lydia Namabiro came out on top as the top try scorer of the tournament.
