Uganda Cubs head coach Brian Ssenyondo keeps his head high after their fairytale story came to an end at the FIFA U17 World Cup.
The highly anticipated game ended 1-1 before Burkina Faso edged the U-17 side 5-3 in a penalty shootout.
Speaking to the press after full time, Ssenyondo revealed that they go back home confident that they have represented the country well.
“We are disappointed that our tournament ended here because we wanted to keep going. However, we go back home with our heads high knowing we did our best,” the gaffer stated.
“We came here as underdogs but I am proud we have left a statement. As a team, we have gathered a lot of experience that will help us going forward in our different professional programs,” he added.
To improve the broader picture of Uganda’s football, it should become a norm for them to regularly participate in this tournament, thereby exposing the boys to the competition early.
“As a country, we have to make this an annual target to be in the World Cup. The boys have shown that they belong and so as the country. We thank everyone who supported us because they made us feel loved.”
“We shall carry the lessons learned and I promise all our fans and followers that our story is only paused but soon will be reloaded.”
