After ending City Oilers’ 10-year dominance to clinch the 2025 National Basketball League championship, Namuwongo Blazers were struck by Nairobi City Thunder.
Namuwongo Blazers suffered a disappointing 89-62 loss to Nairobi City Thunder in the Road to BAL encounter at Kasarani Indoor Arena, Nairobi on Tuesday.
Anthony Chukwurah got the game underway with an easy layup. Jovan Mooring dropped two 3-point shots as the Blazers took a two-point lead (25-23) at the opening period.
With 32 seconds on the clock, Tonny Drileba tied the game 40-40 with a deep 3-pointer, but Lace Robert Thomas responded with a step-back jump to give Nairobi City Thunder a three-point lead (43-40) going into the long break.




Coming from the locker rooms, Nairobi City Thunder increased the tempo of the game, forcing the Blazers into random turnovers as they trailed by 16 points (67-51).
In the final period, it was a one-way traffic as the hosts took home a 27-point victory.
Steven Nyeko’s charges were poor on the line, making 14 of the 26 free throws on top of carelessly giving away the ball several times.
Lance Robert Thomas (18 points), Albert Odero (16 points), Derrick Mekenye (14 points) and Tylor Ongwae (13 points) scored double digits for Nairobi City Thunder.
Jovan Mooring (15 points) and James Okello (11 points) scored double digits on the day.
The Blazers will return to action on Wednesday, November 19 as they take on Johannesburg Giants at the same Arena.
